Cow HeadThe TEXAN CAFE began in 1996 in a small building along Highway 79 a few miles east of Hutto at the train stop of Frameswitch.  Bud and Deb Wheeler created a cozy little cafe with a growing reputation for "home cooking" and a wide selection of pies.  Out front, along the road stood "Ferdinand" a larger than life Hereford statue.

In October of 2006 the cafe was sold to Roger Joughin and business partner Ron Yaudes.

Roger was brought up on a farm in Michigan, raising livestock and plowing fields -eating wonderful meals cooked by mom and grandma. Now after many years of managing corporately owned restaurants and following pre-set menus, Roger is proud to be the owner of his own 'down home' cafe.

He enjoys creating his own menu, using the old recipes, and always tries to warmly greet each customer at the door.

You may see Ron helping out on weekends; sometimes even standing out on Route 79 to snag a weary traveler from the east  looking to find that old small town 'down home diner.

Welcome ...it's a bit like Sunday

GRUMPY

It's our own little bit of history....

It's  the Memories of Sunday Dinner at Grandmas
and of the fields and old farm house kitchens,
and most of all...the old farmers
...GRUMPY old men

Hardscrabble workers, who attended church on Sunday
mostly for the great food at the dinner that followed
Just a Grumpy old guy
happiest eating basic American Comfort Food

In their later years...while retired
he and the Mrs. took to the road
and enjoyed some wonderful meals

Driving the hills of Kentucky and the Midwest
and all up and down the old Route 66

Diners with yeast rolls, roast beef  & fresh baked pie
cafes with a slice of glazed ham, house salad
and a slice of cake

Little Rural road stops with down home recipes
to fill the stomach, and calm the soul
usually making the old couple anything but:
......GRUMPY

After all of their travels
Grumpy wanted a little cafe of his own
offering his customers 'down home comfort food'
served with a smile

All of us are just a little bit GRUMPY
